It’s time to open everything
Axway is continually focused on monitoring the tech landscape to help companies build a more connected, secure, and open digital presence. This has given rise to our first Open Everything Strategy Survey.
We asked nearly 1,000 IT leaders, architects, and developers about the top issues that keep them up at night, how they plan to address these concerns, and the future state they envision. 5 key findings revealed by the study are shown below. You can access the full 2022 Open Everything Strategy Survey results at the link provided.
Open Everything is all about unleashing the full power of your data to create new digital experiences, innovate new services, and reach new markets by embracing API-fueled solutions that future-enable businesses for growth. But success begins with knowledge.
The 2022 Open Everything Strategy Survey results – and how your IT organization matches up – can be that beginning.
The future beckons
The need for open API management
By opening APIs to external and internal developers, companies are closing the gap between API production and API adoption. Respondents said these were the top three most important factors when creating APIs:
- Security (30%)
- API adoption/ consumption (15%)
- Ease of API management (14%) and CX (14%)
When it comes to API growth, the greatest concerns shown by respondents were:
- An increase in security challenges,
- API cost and lack of reuse
API cost and lack of reuse appear to be strongly correlated: unused APIs are costly to build and maintain, putting a real drain on ROI.
Competing in today’s digital landscape
50% of survey respondents said their enterprise has an internal API strategy in place OR is publishing internal APIs and a few low-risk external APIs.
Internal APIs are significant and should be readily available to developers.
COVID-related disruption
Establishing new connections was the most significant way COVID disrupted organizations’ supply chains. 39% of respondents ranked this as most disruptive.
COVID affected not only the supply chain, but also new tech adoption.
The talent conundrum
An overwhelming majority of respondents (86%) think there will be an expertise gap in coming years, where companies don’t have the skilled software and IT infrastructure talent they need to innovate.
Staffing issues can become a further problem, making security and API adoption harder to attain.
Methodology
The 2022 Open Everything Strategy Survey was conducted in July 2022 among two similar, divided subsets. Axway reached out to 150,000 people, including customers and prospective contacts, for whom we had opt-in email addresses. To encourage participation, we offered a gift card incentive to the first 200 respondents. We received nearly 1,000 responses from various locations throughout the world.
